Installing the jam nuts was a PITA. Wish they had something a little better. It also made the lower hinge stick out from the jeep, which threw some of the demensions off for other bracketry. Installed in about 2 hours. Mine right now is sagging a little but i think it's because of the jam nut on the lower hinge as stated above the the lower corner bracket out more which in turn pulls the top down causing a sag. I may have to unbolt and see if I can somehow in the lower crnr bracket and compensate for this.

Tire carrier is extremely well made and designed. Welds are high quality and construction top grade. Bestop really thought out this design to use as many existing bolt holes as possible. This makes for a very easy install and clean looking design. Follow the directions and it will be a simple installation. The tire carrier is sold feeling when closing the door with no rattles. It sits close to the tailgate, so no rearward overhang. I highly recommend if you don't want to buy a new rear bumper with its own dedicated tire carrier. I had already upgraded to a rockslider rear bumper, so this was the best and easiest method.

What I like the most about this item is when you open your tail gate you dont have to swing the tire out first then open the door. This item allows you to open both in one smooth and fast motion. I have a H2 SUT and its an inconvenience to swing out the tire first then open the tail gate. This spare tire carrier does not require you to have to perform separate actions to gain access to your jeep. I installed this on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler that has a stock bumper. I mounted a 35" tire on it and it has been holding it with no problem. It is quiet and does not rattle. Install, you have to do some drilling which is easy. I installed it by myself. I did not have any scratches or areas of concern when I received it. the powder coat finish looks great. I highly recommend this carrier for anyone who wants to solve a tire carrying problem economically. I would even recommend using this for any tire size 31" on up.

Once you've lifted the JEEP, you've gotta either deal with the stock wheel for a spare, or pick up that shiny new over-sized spare tire. If your already planning to replace your rear bumper for increased rear protection, you may have other options for a swing-away tire carrier. This, however, is a great over-sized tire carrier for those who aren't, or who don't want to add the extra step in getting your rear tailgate open. This carrier mounts directly to your tailgate allowing it to swing open WITH the tailgate and has additional hidden supports back to the body to carry the weight of the over-sized spare. Bought this for our Wrangler TJ, and while we haven't been too hard on it off road yet (which is why I give it 4 out of 5 stars) - so far so good. Product comes well packaged and with all components needed for the install, which took about 2 1/2 hrs (when you back out the rain squall and a few trips to the hardware store for Torx bit sizes I THOUGHT I had, etc.). While I would recommend reading through the directions and making sure you've actually got all the tools prior to beginning your project, this was the right product for us.

Put mine on with a 35" spare and replaced the bolts that go through the tub with Grade 8s with proper torque. It feels nice when closing. Only complaint is the welds are not as pretty as I hoped. there is a nice booger size weld right where I can see it on one of the arms..
